In December 1945, a memorandum was circulated by the Scottish Education Department to all the local authorities in Scotland requesting temporary assistance by school pupils to help deliver the Christmas mail. With labour in acute shortage due to the Second World War, the efforts of school children across Scotland were required to ensure everyone received their mail before Christmas.
