Dunblane Rovers F.C. – Register of matches, players and goalscorers, 1924 – 1939

A recent donation to the archive was a register of matches, players and goalscorers for Dunblane Rovers F.C from 1924 – 1939. The register is a great example of sporting history in the local area and an addition to the records we already hold for the club.

The register was compiled as the season progressed with three primary sections:

  • Record of games played showing the date, opponents, score, competition and goalscorers
  • Roll of singed players
  • Record of goals scored during the season

The 1929 – 1930 season proved to be a successful outing for Rovers. They finished 4th in the Eastern Division of the Scottish Junior League. Jenkins finished the season as top goalscorer scoring an impressive 7 goals in one game against St Ninians Thistle in the League Cup.

The team also reached the final of the Stirlingshire Junior Cup. They played Dunipace Juniors on the 17th May 1929 with the game finishing 1-1. A replay was held at Forthbank on the 23rd May with Rovers emerging victorious with a 2-1 victory. Clark and Pye netted for the team.

A list of signed players for the season is also included with the register. For 1939-1940 season, players were recruited throughout August. Only one player, Thomas Ross, came from Dunblane. The rest of players resided in the local district apart from Adam Spiers.
